Al Dhayah Fort
Dhayah fort is on the hilltop offering magnificent view of lush palm gardens towards bay side and striking mountain view on the other side. Dhayah Fort played an important role as the last line of defense against the British invasion of Ras Al Khaimah in 1819.
The current fort was constructed from the stone, mud brick, and mortar on the remnants of the old fort. It was meticulously restored in the 1990s and can be accessed today via a stairwell, making it an accessible attraction.
Across the small courtyard surrounded by a wall, two towers face each other. No supply of water is available inside or around the structure. There is also a second bigger fort at the foot of the hill. The people living and working in the area used to gather with their animals inside the fort in times of danger. Furthermore, watchtowers within the palm gardens contributed to the overall security and protection of the area.
The hilltop fort, the Sur, and the watchtower provided effective protection for the population in Dhayah.
